Practical Experience in Identifying Counterfeit Goods

Since 2022, the RA SRC Training Center has been regularly organizing online training sessions on “Intellectual Property Rights Protection” for customs officers performing relevant functions.

With the aim of exchanging experience, applying knowledge in practice, and developing relevant skills, the RA SRC Training Center initiated a work visit by Angelina Tarasova, Director of the “S&O” Intellectual Property Protection Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, from May 20 to 22. During the visit, 3 training sessions on “Practical Experience in Identifying Counterfeit Goods” were conducted for officers of the following departments: passenger and postal divisions of the E-Commerce and Air Transport Operations Department, the Anti-Smuggling Department, Post-Release Control and Inspections Department, divisions No. 1–7 of Foreign Economic Activity Customs Service and Control Department, as well as the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Division of the Legal Department of the SRC.

Participants were introduced to samples of more than 8 brands, with a strong focus on practical exercises involving both counterfeit and genuine products. Key distinguishing features typical of goods violating intellectual property rights were highlighted. The expert also presented the unique experience of the customs service of her country, methods for detecting counterfeit goods, and applicable tools.

To assess the acquired skills, the trainer conducted an oral test at the end of the course, rating the participants' answers as excellent.

Participants also highly appreciated the relevance of the training, emphasizing its importance in daily practice for identifying violations and protecting the country from counterfeit products.
